Bungee Jumping at 15,200 Feet - Curtis Rivers' World Record

On June 25, 2001, a snowy Sunday, history was made when Hollywood Stuntman Hall of Fame member Curtis Rivers broke the world record for highest altitude bungee jump.

After ascending 15,200 feet above Puertollano, Spain in a hot air balloon, the daredevil bungee jumped 98 feet and bounced a total of five times before freeing himself and parachuting toward the ground.

Due to atmospheric conditions, Rivers was given oxygen by the pilot of the hot air balloon. A cameraman parachuted with Rivers and captured the stunt in its entirety; the bungee jumping portion of said video is located below.

One would imagine that a stunt such as this would require a lot of careful planning before execution, but this record breaking event played out quite spontaneously. Rivers and his crew were preparing a test run for an upcoming attempt at setting a new world record for longest parachute jump when the stuntman decided to add an additional record to his resume.

Rivers was 32 years old when the aforementioned jump took place. He achieved his goal of performing the world's longest parachute jump, which clocked in at 45 minutes, shortly after this test run, but that record was outdone in 2012. Along with setting two world records, Rivers has written a book, earned two film awards, and started a speaking career. Click here to view his official website.
