The 1008 foot (338 meters) tall Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, which opened shortly before Christmas in 2001, currently holds the world record for highest commercial bungee jumping location. Anyone willing to take the plunge from this tower will soar downwards at an exhilarating 200 kilometers per hour. It takes 60 seconds to reach the top of Macau Tower, but only a tenth of that time to reach the bottom!
The bungee jumping platform was added near the top of the tower two days before its five year anniversary. A J Hackett was the mastermind behind the construction of the platform and was the first individual to ever leap from the tower. By being the first person to bungee jump from Macau Tower, A. J. broke the world record for the highest commercial bungee jump every carried out.
In addition to the bungee jumping platform, a sky jump is located 764 feet (233 meters) off the ground. This platform was the tallest sky jumping location in the world until it was outdone by the Stratosphere, a hotel, casino and tower located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sky jumping is a variation of bungee jumping where participants are lowered at approximately 75 kilometers per hour by a controlled descent machine. The machine is attached to a cable that is hooked up to a special suit the participant will wear.
